About Acupuncture
Acupuncture is part of a time-tested system of healing known as Oriental Medicine. Practiced successfully for thousands of years in China, Japan and other Eastern countries, acupuncture offers a holistic approach to health and wellness. From this perspective, optimal health can be attained by recognizing and addressing the multi-dimensional nature of the human being The task of the acupuncturist is to restore balance and unity to the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of being. It only makes sense that all parts should be treated to achieve wellness and comfort.
Life processes are at work every moment, directing thousands of activities including circulation, sensation, inspiration, awareness and the ebb and flow of emotional tides. This motivating life energy is called Qi (say "chee"). Qi moves along pathways called meridians that lie just beneath the skin. Each meridian corresponds to a specific physiological system and inner organ, forming an energetic map of the body that provides unique insight into the state of your health . The harmonious flow of Qi is essential to true health; blocked or
stagnant Qi results in imbalance and eventually disease.
